DSCF0164.JPGWhen we first meet someone, we often use "small talk" to show we are friendly, even if we don't know someone well. And small talk gives us a chance to find out more about someone. Here are a couple of expression people frequently use in English, in order of informality:

How are you?
I'm fine, thanks. And you?
How're you doing?
Great...like always
What's up?
Weather -- It's been so cold lately.....I know.....How is the weather going to be this weekend?

In the second column, write some good answers to these questions. Remember, no one wants to know the details of your health!

And now - what else can you talk about when you meet someone on the street?

Write down topics and a few examples for small talk, like above.
